General Secretariat Dame Meg Taylor on Climate Change

Dame Meg Taylor said the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat has spoken on issues to do with the pacific and climate change, she said that at the COP21 Pacific island nations were happy with the results but were disappointed with issues to do with the ocean where not included in the final document.

When asked how she felt of PNG’s role in climate change, Dame Taylor said Papua New Guinea played a big role in the Pacific, as it was the largest island, and has natural National Newss, like trees that play a vital role in climate change.

She said that the government had said that they would be protecting forests and rehabilitating forest ground. She hoped to see the government stick to them.

Dame Taylor said the Pacific Island forum would now be looking into concerns that have been sent in from each Pacific nation and how to tackle them.

She said that most of the concerns surrounded around West Papua, climate change, cervical cancer, I.T and added value for the fisheries.
