Eight Mile Residents to Get A New Market

by Merilyn Diau-Katam – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Residents of 8 Mile in Port Moresby will see a new market in the heart of ATS.

Residents say this new infrastructure will save them the hassle of travelling to Gordon’s Market to conduct their sales.

This will be the first time a proper market will be built in the 8 Mile community.

A cheque for K98,000 was donated today by the member for Moresby North East, Labi Amaiu, to contractors for the construction of the market.

The construction commenced today.

Residents say this will be the second development in their area; recently they received a new water supply to cater for the estimated 30,000 residents.

Community Law & Order Committee member, Jonathan Kongai, said: “The ATS area still needs more infrastructure development to cater for the growing number of residents. We need a proper constructed road and a health centre here. It will be more convenient, especially for expecting mothers.”
