Cash Flow Affecting Road Funds

By Stanley Ove Jr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Works Minister, Francis Awesa, told parliament yesterday that the current cash flow problem in the country is affecting funds allocated for road maintenance.

The minister was responding to questions raised by Maprik MP, John Simon, on the maintenance of the Sepik Highway.

Simon said if there are available funds, they must be released to maintain small portions of roads that are in ruin in order to save millions of Kina if more significant damage was to occur in the future.

Minister Awesa, in response, said the current drop in commodity prices is affecting the cash flow of the country and funds will be released only when they are made available.

The minister told parliament that no highways are given preference and funds have been equally distributed for all national highways and roads around the country.
