Faithful have gathered in Kavieng, New Ireland province to celebrate the 25-year Silver Jubilee for the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kavieng and Lorengau, Bishop Ambrose Kiapseni.
Bishop Ambrose, who comes from the Catholic Religious Order of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC), was the first Papua New Guinean ordained as a local Bishop for the Diocese of Kavieng and Lorengau on May 12, 1991.
Faithful in the Kavieng/Lorengau Diocese and from other regions gathered at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kavieng to commemorate this special event in the life of the church.
It began with the Holy Eucharist Celebration, led by the Bishop of the Wabag Diocese, who is also the Chairperson of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands, Bishop Arnold Orawae.
Archbishop of the Rabaul Archdiocese, Francesco Panfilo, along with representatives from other dioceses such as Bougainville, was also present to witness this special occasion.
“I am so humbled to celebrate this special occasion with Bishop Ambrose, because we look up onto him as our model,” he said.
Archbishop Francesco read a letter from the Holy See, Rome, congratulating Bishop Ambrose Kiapseni for his Silver Jubilee.
“On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee, of your episcopal consecration, I pray that the Lord may continue to strengthen you in your ministry and fill you with your ever greater zeal, for the work of evengelisation, fostering an ever deeper communion, with your fellow bishop and Peter, our successor,” the letter said.
