Founder and Executive Director of PNG Women in Business (PNGWiB), Janet Sape, has praised the government’s commitment to support the small to medium enterprise (SME) sector.
Sape recently represented on PNG at the United Nations Public Private Partnership Conference in Aruba, in the Caribbean Islands.
She gave a presentation at the conference during the finance session, highlighting lessons and best practices in public-private partnerships for small island developing states.
Sape recently returned from the UN Public Private Partnership Conference in Aruba and called a media conference to share highlights of the meeting.
She said the conference was a platform to share PNG’s experience of having the first women’s microbank in the Pacific region, and the fourth in the world. Sape said this was a successful venture made possible through the support of the national government and the Bank of PNG.
The UN Under-Secretary-General, Gyan Chandra Acharya, in a letter thanked Sape for her contribution, saying her presentation was insightful.
She thanked the UN for recognising the work of the women of Papua New Guinea. The UN is moving to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, which look at the role of the private sector in contributing to the sustainability of small island developing states.
