Sir Julius Chan has launched his autobiography Playing The Game.

This book gives an insight into the triumphs and downfalls of the two-time Prime Minister and the man many refer to as the father of the Kina and Toea.

Playing the Game is the story of Sir Julius Chan’s life. He best describes it’saying that as a young man he played the game of rugby, but over the years a different game dominated his life – politics.

A number of high-profile guests, as well as family and friends of Sir Julius attended the launching.

Sir Julius said recollecting events and memories and writing the book was quite an experience.

He writ’s about his family history, of their Chinese origin, and his early childhood in Namatanai before being relocated to Rabaul due to World War II.

He says that his Chinese, Papua New Guinean and Australian upbringing taught him to be strong, and his rugby days in Australia taught him how to be a team player.

Chan’s book also touches on how he started his career in politics, and key areas of his political life, such as the Bougainville crisis and the liberation of Vanuatu.

Ted Diro, who was present at the launching, had nothing but high regards for Sir Julius.  He said that he was the best Prime Minister PNG ever had because of his contribution to the liberation of Vanuatu.

Opposition leader, Don Polye, officiated the launch and said the book was a great insight into PNG politics.
