The Host Organising Committee for the 2016 PNG Games says facilities built will be of a quality standard.

Deputy Chairman, Dacca Wagai, told EMTV Sport that despite challenges in financial backing and weather patterns, preparation is going smoothly.

Wagai said the facilities will be the first of its kind in the province and their aim is to build of a standard so the province can also benefit after the games are complete.

“Close supervision will be carried out by a consultant to make sure things are built according to standard,” Wagai said.

The WNB Provincial Government committed K10 million in last year’s supplementary budget and K12 million in the 2016 budget. The national government has committed K5 million but it is yet to be confirmed.

The Host Organising Committee says a budget of under K40 million is needed to build and host the games.

“We need around K37 million to host the games, that’s according to our budget,” Wagai said.

Meanwhile the satellite sit’s for the games are taking shape with momentum building in communities across the province.
