Following widespread allegations of cheating taking place during school certificate examinations in some schools, Education Minister, Nick Kuman, has commissioned an investigation and review of the examination system.
“Such allegations bring disrepute to the system of examination and question the integrity and fairness in the system of examination conducted by the department of education. When there is a public concern about one aspect of the education system, the government has a duty to find a better solution to address that concern,” Kuman said.
An independent team of six experts in the education system, led by former education secretary, Dr. Musawe Sinebare, was established to identify loopholes in the systems framework, three of which were present at a news conference called by the minister today.
Kuman said the investigation would be carried out over the course of four weeks.
The team is required to report back to the department with a report and recommendations for necessary policies towards the improvement of exam security and assessment systems.
