Opposition Concerned Over PNGs Justice System

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Opposition Leader, Don Polye, today questioned delays in prosecuting people charged with obvious crimes.

Polye said PNG needs timely justice, or it will see the rights of every citizen under threat.

The opposition leader spoke about alleged cases against Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, and the recent breakout at Buimo Prison.

Polye says delayed tactics and the slow processing of remandees is serious, and constitutional offices must not be interfered with for justice to prevail.

“Delaying justice is not justice,” Polye said.

Top of the agenda concerning the opposition is the case involving Prime Minister O’Neill over the K71.8 million paid to Paraka Lawyers, the K3 billion UBS loan and K50 million purchase of generators from Israel.

Deputy Opposition Leader and Bulolo MP, Sam Basil, lashed out at recent changes of Police Commissioners by the NEC.

“The O’Neill-Dion government has made three changes so far with the head of the police hierarchy,” Basil said.

The opposition will be pushing the agendas of human rights and justice in this year’s first parliamentary sitting.

His deputy, Sam Basil, Lae MP, Loujaya Kouza, Kikori MP, Mark Maipakai, and Goilala MP, William Samb backed the opposition leader on his thoughts.
