A man was killed in a failed attempt robbery along the East Sepik Coastal Highway on Monday when criminals opened fire at the truck he was traveling on.
Ernest Nateleo from Yakamul village was traveling from Wewak to West Sepik when the vehicle he was traveling in was shot at when the criminals could not get the truck to stop.
West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou has condemned the killing, describing it at ‘barbaric’.
“This is not the first time this incident has happened.”
“Last year, a similar killing happened where we lost a young man from Malol village,” says Wouwou.
A disappointed Wouwou is appealing to the people of Banak village (where the attack happened) to identify the criminals and bring them to justice.
Wouwou is also joined by Wewak MP Kevin Isifu who said those involved are now “public enemy.”
“Your days are numbered… The full force of the law is coming after you,” said Isifu.
