Telikom PNG Committed to Developing Digital Economy in PNG

Telikom PNG Limited has made significant investments in modernizing its infrastructure, including the domestic transmission network, upgraded capacity on the international fibre optic sub-sea cable between Madang and Sydney and the new 3G and 4G LTE mobile network covering the country. This was made know at the the 2019 Digital Economy Forum under the theme ‘Connect the unconnected for an inclusive Digital Economy’. With Telikom, a Gold Sponsor of the Forum joined the other participants in the NICTA and Department of Communication led event. Speakers at the forum included specialists from Government, Industry, Academia, Businesses, as well as International Experts who held technical discussions on a number of key issues including, spectrum planning for mobile broadband technology, and security of cyberspace. Despite these challenges, Telikom has stood the test of time and continues to deliver its services across PNG and is an integral part of the evolving Digital Economy in the country. With the recent launch of its new product in February 2019 – Fixed Wireless Broadband; a voice and data services that rides on the 4G network and the increasing demand for landline internet services, Telikom aims at increasing the number of connected homes and businesses to its network. The Forum also saw Telikom continue its support in bringing connectivity to PNG and the region by signing a Declaration on connecting the future alliance. Telikom PNG and other partners like Huawei, NICTA, Digitec and DataCo all signed the declaration. The agreement would now enable all signatories to contribute to the growth of digitizing intelligence and creating new worlds of opportunities in PNG. Telikom has worked to improve services in a unique environment like Papua New Guinea. Challenges faced have included Accessibility to sites in most parts of the country require expensive transportation modes and even to the extent that Telikom gets involved in the construction and maintenance of access roads to its sites; In addition, latest Digital Technologies, Products and Solutions were also showcased at the ICT Expo which was held in parallel with the forum. Telikom showcased its Fixed and Wireless Broadband Services. Other major sponsors of the forum were, Huawei, Dataco, Datec PNG, Digitec PNG, Digicel PNG, Bmobile and Kinect.
