CEO of PNG Sports Foundation, Peter Tsiamalili Junior, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Bowls PNG, where athletes are entitled to access services provided by PNG High Performance.
Bowls PNG Representative, Andy Agovaua, says the opportunity is timely, and athletes training for the Pacific Games will utilize the services in full. The MoU now makes the sport of bowling, the 25th code to partner with PNG Sports Foundation.
The MoU allows athletes associated with lawn bowls to access services provided by Sports Foundation through its High-Performance Sports Programs, which includes physiotherapy, strength and conditioning, and nutrition and hydration.
Sports Foundation CEO, Peter Tsiamalili Junior, says this opportunity will now allow athletes preparing for the 2019 Pacific Games to come forward and utilize the services at the High-Performance Training Centre
“This is a significant step again with another sport within PNG were they are obviously preparing for the Pacific Games and most importantly too with the elite training. So far for the first time, we’ve had 24 sports that have signed on with the foundation to access the High-Performance Sport services,” Sports Foundation CEO Peter Tsiamalili Junior said. “Something that we have developed in the last three years, we are getting Papua New Guineans engaged in particular with strength and conditioning, physiotherapy and phycology, so all these different skills can help to develop a key athlete”.
The representative from Bowls PNG and Team Manager to this year’s Pacific Games, Andy Agovaua, says Bowls PNG will utilize the opportunity by engaging all its development programs.
“Currently, Bowls PNG is focusing on Junior Development as our priority area and we also have upcoming international events the Pacific Games and Asia Pacific Games in the Gold Coast,” Bowls PNG Andy Agovaua said.
Meanwhile, HPS Performance Manager Armstrong Meli says it is their job to get the athletes ready for any regional and international events.
“The partnership with High-Performance Sport gives the athletes the opportunity to develop in sports as well as also with life after sports.”
