IEA TAFE students receive recognition through HPS emerging talent scholarship

By Godwin Eki – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

Eighteen students from the International Education Agency’s College of TAFE received certificates from the High-Performance Sport through their emerging talent scholarship program.

The students will take up a one-year scholarship program with High-performance Sport, where six months will be spent on specific programs while the other six months, will focus on gym activities.

These are the first group of students to be engaged in the High Performance emerging talent program under the IEA – HPS partnership.

TAFE College Manager Chris Jones thanked HPS for its partnership and challenged the students to take hold of the opportunity and give it their best.

In the next 6 to 12 months, students will be taken through a variety of activities at HPS to identify and associate each one with their strength of sport and gym activities associated with each sport.

While it is too early to predict if these students will one day find themselves in a national team, it is their hard work, attendance, efforts and persistence that will determine a place for future representation in the national teams.

Meanwhile, in return of the scholarship provided by HPS for IEA TAFE Students, IEA TAFE has offered scholarships to four elite athletes to study at the IEA TAFE College.
