Government commits to ‘Open Governance’

By Jana Zoriry – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The national government says it is committed to the process of open governance, meaning to have Budgets, public policy and government documents more accessible the public.

This is according to the National Planning and Monitoring Minister, Richard Maru who spoke at the opening of the 2018 Consultative Implementation and Monitoring Council (CIMC) National Development Forum today.

Minister Maru says the process of ‘open governance’ is to ensure that there is transparency.

Mr Maru told the participants that the ‘Open Governance’ action plan would be formally endorsed as the Government is fully committed to being open in terms of the budget, government processes and planning.

Mr. Maru also urged the participants of the Forum to come up with recommendations that can be implemented, and says he is looking forward to seeing the recommendations.

He added that as the Minister responsible, he is committed to supporting the outcome of the Forum.

Minister Maru expressed his interest in seeing the recommendations and says the recommendations will go directly to Cabinet with his signature on.

He assured the participants that their time at the Forum would not be a waste.

CIMC Executive Officer, Wallis Yakam, welcomed Mr. Maru’s commitment, and says CIMC is looking forward to collaborating with the Government.
