Police officers at one of Port Moresby’s busiest police stations continue to lack logistical support; it’s been this way, for more than a year.
Policemen and women serving at Gordon’s Police Station do not have a vehicle to carry out daily police operations.
City residents who turn up at the station to lay complaints often spend the whole day at the station waiting for suspects to arrive; others, give up on seeking justice, and return home.
The Gordon’s Police Station provides law and other services to at least 30 thousand city residents living in the Nine Mile area, right through Five Mile, Gordons Five, and the residential area towards the Government offices at Waigani.
However, the lack of a police vehicle in the last 18 months has delayed police operations for officers stationed at Gordons.
A police vehicle is an important resource for the police force, it is used to pick up officers for duties, and it is also needed to pick up suspects accused of an offence.
The absence of a police vehicle makes it more challenging for officers to conduct their duties or reporting to work.
Meanwhile, the Waigani Police Station also lacks a vehicle; it has now been two months.
