A total of K5Million in cheques were paid yesterday (July 5) to 46 Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) Institutions, Universities, and private schools; under the NCD & Moresby South, TVET & School Fee Assistant Scholarship Program.
Since the inception of the TVET Scholarship and School Fee Assistance Scheme (SFAS) in 2008, by NCD Governor Powes Parkop, K40 million has been spent so far.
About 1,000 students have benefited under the NCD and Moresby South TVET Scholarship and SFAS, with 46 education and technical training institutions in the country receiving their much awaited funds.
This scholarship program is given to NCD students studying in and outside Port Moresby at tertiary and technical institutions.
Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko, has also joined the NCD Governor in the program by sponsoring students from his electorate.
Governor Parkop reiterated his vision to see a cleaner and healthier Port Moresby City, saying one of the ways to achieve that, is by educating young and smart Papua New Guineans.
Parents, guardians, and institutions who gathered at the Caritas Technical Secondary School, were all smiles as they received their school fee assistance funds.
La Salle Technical College, Vice Headboy and a recipient of the Scholarship Program, Leonard Isaiah, said he was thankful for the school fee assistance.
Under this scholarship scheme, the Moresby South MP has committed K1 million.
This will also cover special skills upgrades of 100 teachers in Moresby South, including an upgrade for elementary teacher’s qualifications from certificates to elementary diplomas.
