Cricket PNG to host Michell Starc, Alyssa Healy and Dean Jones

Cricket PNG proudly announced today that three (3) former/current international cricketing legends will touch down in Port Moresby this Friday 15th June. Current Australian left-arm fast bowler, Mitchell Starc, current Australian Women’s batswoman/wicket-keeper and former Australian Test Legend, Dean Jones will be travelling to Port Moresby for a couple of days this week to be involved in various cricket/promotional activities.

“We are very fortunate to attract Mitchell (Starc), Alyssa (Healy) and Deano (Dean Jones) to the shores of PNG this week. To have these high profile international cricketers in PNG will help boost the sport of cricket further,” said CPNG CEO, Greg Campbell.

Starc is currently recovering from a foot injury which he sustained on the controversial South African Tour earlier this year and was unable to secure his spot for the current Australian United Kingdom (UK) Tour. He has played 43 Test Matches, taking 182 wickets with a healthy batting average of 21.68, 72 One Day International (ODIs) taking 141 wickets and played 22 Twenty20 International (T20Is) taking 30 wickets. Starc was a pivotal part of Australia’s Word Cup Victory in 2015, winning the Player of the Tournament Award.

Healy is currently a permanent member of the Australian Women’s Cricket Team, having played 3 Test Matches, 58 ODIs with a healthy batting average of 22.43 and Strike Rate of 96.39 and 80 T20Is. Healy has played a huge role in the dominance of the Australian Women’s Team in recent years having won the Women’s WT20 in 2010, 2012 and 2014 as well as the Women’s World Cup in 2013.

Jones played 52 Tests and 164 ODIs from 1984-94 and was a part of the victorious Australian World Cup winning team in 1987. Jones was a flamboyant batsmen who averaged an incredible 46.55 in Tests and 44.61 in ODIs during an era where the mighty West Indies dominated world cricket. Since retiring, Jones has been involved in coaching and commentating around the world.
During their visit, the three (3) cricketing legends will be involved in various events including media conferences, high performance training programs with the biggest drawcard being the Cricket PNG Annual Gala Dinner which will take place on Saturday 16th June at the Gateway Hotel.
