Lands Board Expected to Work with Provincial Governments to Settle Outstanding Matters

By Staycey Yalo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Papua New Guinea Lands Board is expected to travel throughout the country to work with provincial governments to ensure outstanding land matters are dealt with.

Lands and Physical Planning Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, appealed to all provincial governments to work with the Lands Department and the Lands Board to resolve many outstanding issues.

Minister Tkatchenko says Lands Board meetings in provinces are important as the board is the body that is responsible to settle land issues.

After 15 years, the East Sepik Province will be hosting its first Lands Board meeting next month; New Ireland Province is also on the list to host its own meeting as well.

Together with the Department of Lands, the cost to host a lands board meeting will be shared between the provincial governments and the Lands Department.

Minister Tkatchenko added that for many years provinces have not been working with the Lands Department and in his term as the current minister, he is working to change that.
