Armed that morning with spades, grass knives, rakes, brooms and matches, a small group of women and children at ATS First Block settlement were out as early as 6am on Thursday 17, August 2017 cleaning the roads that were leading into their homes.
Rose Kaupa told EMTV Online, they decided to do clean-up because they believe the little they do can account for bigger changes in the community and society.
Kaupa, who is also the sister of the new Moresby North East MP, John Kaupa initiated this clean-a-thon and got satisfactory support from women in the ATS First Block community.
The women said they hope for the new MP to urbanise the ATS Settlement, and they do want to wait to participate in making the community a better place to live in.
Hopes for better roads, organised streets and allotments and water supply systems were also part of what they told EMTV Online’s Elizah Palme.
Many a time, we do not recognise that little actions from us do account for bigger changes in the society. And credit goes to women in taking the lead in instigating such constructive activities.
