While most polling booths around Port Moresby were packed with voters braving the heat of the sun to cast their votes, the Cheshire Home of People Living with Disabilities (PLWD), had a smooth running of operations.
Although there was a slight hiccup in the beginning of the day with the late arrival of candidate poster for the booths, polling kicked off in an orderly manner.
Voters and their guardians stood patiently in line to cast their votes.
Tole Wia, a voter who is living with disability thanked the Electoral Commission for the initiative of creating separate polling booths for PLWD, however, expressed some disappointments.
Mr Wia also raised a concern about PNG having a tendency to doing things in the last minute without proper planning.
He called for an inclusive election in future that will able all kinds of disabilities to vote without difficulty.
“I have good eyesight, but for those people who are blind, the materials should be in an accessible format, if not then the Electoral Commission will have to work on that,” stated Mr Wia.
The Cheshire polling booth provided a convenient opportunity for the PLWD community as it was also open to other PLWD living outside of Cheshire Home including the staff and the caretakers.
