Morobe Patrol Post in Huon Gulf District Established as Police and Maritime Surveillance Centre

Morobe Patrol Post, in the Huon Gulf District, has been established as the Police and Maritime Surveillance Centre.

It will be the strategic location to train Water Police personnel and plan sea operations for police.

Yesterday, Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, and local MP Ross Seymour commissioned the site with a groundbreaking ceremony.

The maritime surveillance Centre was launched yesterday.

Commissioner Baki says they were planning to turn the police post into a water police base for the Lae Metropolitan Command until it was destroyed.

They will now use it to rebuild a new water police base for the Lae Metropolitan Command.

The new water police base once established will assist personnel based at the Morobe patrol post to man  Morobe waters.

The new water police base will help to control sea piracy incidents.

The Vocopoint police post was  set alight in February by a number of suspects  believed to be living in the nearby Geks settlement.

The police post was manned during the day only.
