The Law and Justice Sector will now be able to track criminals using a national criminal database system.
This is a pilot project created to improve the National Criminal Detection Process from time of arrest by police to sentencing.
Lae Judge, Justice Don Sawong was present today to address selected officers from the sector in Lae, Wewak and Port Moresby about the database system.
These officers including Police, Clerks of District Courts and Correctional Institutions.
This program is part of a criminal case management improvement in PNG.
Justice Sawong said all officers of the Law and Justice Sector will manage the information all the way to the final disposition.
This is when the court, magistrate or judge makes the final decision on the nature of offense.
The same information will go to the Correctional Institutions depending on the decision made.
The project will be implemented in January of next year.
This pilot project in Momase will be trialled by higher authorities of the National Criminal Justice Department, before it is rolled out to all other provinces.
All staff of the Law and Justice Sector are required to take up trainings on managing the database system, especially police who will lead in entering data on the time of arrest.
