NCD Election Manager, Terence Hetinu, announced that for the first time, names of the deceased will be removed from the NCD Electoral Roll.
Mr.Hetinu, said his team approached the Corona’s Office, and was given more than 60,000 names of people who have died in NCD between 2010 and 2016.
He said this is a big achievement in terms of removing ghost names and coming closer to having an accurate electoral roll.
The NCD Election Manager said previously, names of those who have passed on had never been removed from the electoral roll.
This has created problems and affected election outcomes in the past.
Under the law, the Electoral Commission must remove names of the deceased; however, Mr. Hetinu said assistance from the public is needed, especially from relatives and other credible sources.
Mr. Hetinu appealed to the public to cooperate with Enrollment Agents who are working hard with limited funding and time, during the voter registration period.
Voters will also be asked to present credible identification documents like an NID card, driver’s license, birth certificate among others to ensure genuine enrollment .
