A goal for PNG in the FIFA U-20 Womens World Cup rocked the nation but credit must also go to the goal-keeper.
Faith Kasiray played her best for the country when she saved over 20 goal attempts from the onslaught of Korea DPR.
She also got a mention from the commentators who believe given more training she will improve in the future.
Korea DPR were relentless in their attacks in the match against Papua New Guinea with bursting runs from their charges getting past the backline defense of the host nation.
But it was the goal keeper, 17-year-old Faith Kasiray who stood the last line of defense and pulled-off some remarkable saves in the early stages of the game.
The 2006 Champions may have won the game by 7-1 but with 70% of ball possession compared to Papua New Guinea’s 30% possession, it could have been more goals if not for young Kasiray.
Korea DPR had 30 shots on goal but only 7 counted, Kasiray did more than 20 saves leaving the audience in awe.
Being an obvious target for dangerous or even violent action, Kasiray in a post-match interview said she puts everything on the line for her country no matter the outcome.
“At first I was a bit nervous but then my coach always said that, it’s okay to be nervous because you’re human being and if you’re not nervous than you’re abnormal, so yeah I was quite nervous at first but then I just ran out there and gave my best, my coach told me to just give my best regardless of the result she said.”
As the goal keeper is usually the team’s only player who can see the entire filed; Young Kasiray in moments acts as the organizer of the team, barking out instructions to her defenders to get inline or press forward.
PNG caught Korea DPR in an off-side position 18 times to none.
