FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Korea Toppled by Mexico

In a thrilling match that went down between Mexico and Korea Republic, the Mexicans defeated Korea Republic  2 – 0, at the National Football Stadium here in the Nation’s capital.

Both teams displayed endurance in the first half until an untimed move by Korea Republic Goal keeper made way for Mexico’s first goal in the 53rd minute.

In the first half of the match, Mexico had ball possession but scoring attempts were always meeting Korea Republic’s defense head-on .

Korea’s counterattacks were not always timed well, unlike their opponents.

By half time, the score was nil all.

The second half saw both sides regrouped when they took the field.

Mexico’s Kiana Palacios’ first attempt at the goal mouth went to no avail. But in the 53rd minute, Jacqueline Krowther’s first goal for Mexico ensued just inside the box when an untimed move from the goal mouth by the goal keeper gave Krowther an easy shot.

Mexico then switched to a stronger defensive formation, until another shot from Kiana Palacious moved the score count to 2 – 0, in favor of Mexico.

Korea Republic Coach, Jong Songchon later said, his team did not make use of all the opportunities they got. This will be their key improvement area going into their next match.

Meanwhile, a pleased Mexican Coach, Roberto Medina said, his team displayed extraordinary attitude and tenacity throughout the match and he will see to it that his team maintains this when facing Germany tomorrow.
