While the seventh PNG Games are set to go ahead from November 26 to December 10, 2016, it unfortunately overlaps with the biggest sporting event to otentially hit our shores – the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The PNG Games proposed dates overlap the World Cup by just eight days.
This may be a potential threat, with one sporting event taking more focus away from the other.
While confirmation is yet to be received from the PNG Sport Foundation, Vice Chairman of the PNG Games Organising Committee, Dacca Magai, has said that the current dates are tentative and are subject to change once the Host Organising Committee meets next week to finalise their plans for the games.
The PNG Games are set to be staged in Kimbe, West New Britain Province next year, with all 22 provinces expected to attend.
