A steering Committee is currently overseeingthe drafting of Papua New Guinearsquo;s second National Human Development Report.
The report is by UNDP andthPNG Government.
It’s titled from Nature to People; Translating Resource Wealth into Sustainable Development.
Papua New Guineahas recently experienced an average annual economic growth rate of seven percent driven bythe boom inthe resource sector. However,the benefits of economic growth have not trickled down to a vast majority ofthe population.
The National Human Development Report willtherefore seek to analysethe potential for sound natural resource management to contribute to sustainable human development.
Dr Glen Banks form Mercy University in New Zealand has been engaged to Co-editthe report.
A consultative process will be underway bringing togther divergent views about how to best translate natural resource wealth into improverments in socio economic indicators.
The National Human Development Report will also be drawing from lessons in Papua New GuineaandWorld’s Best practices.
