2018 Study Opportunities for Study in Australia Opens

The Office of Australia Awards has announced today the opening of the applications for study in Australia in 2018 through the prestigious Australia Award Scholarships.

An initiative of the Australian Government, the Australia Awards Scholarships provide opportunities for aspiring Papua New Guineans to research and study for an internationally-recognised tertiary qualification at an Australian university and to develop professionally.

The office said scholarships provided through the program help to address human resource gaps in key development priority sectors agreed between the Governments of Papua New Guinea and Australia.

Australian High Commission Counselor (Education), Susan Edgecombe said, Papua New Guineans who are passionate about making a positive difference and committed to contributing to Papua New Guinea’s development are invited to apply.

This year, applications will be considered in the priority fields of education, health, governance, law and justice, transport and infrastructure.

Those people who will be committed to contributing to the development of Papua New Guinea including women, persons with disability and people living and working in the provinces are encouraged to apply.

“Applying for an Australia Awards Scholarship is a highly competitive process. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the Australia Awards – PNG website to complete an eligibility test and access resources to help them submit a strong application,” Ms Edgecombe said.

It is understood, the Australian Government has provided scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study in Australia for over 40 years and more than 2,000 Papua New Guineans have successfully completed their studies in Australia since 1996.

“Applicants in Port Moresby can visit the Australia Awards – PNG Information Centre located in Downtown Port Moresby at Port Tower, Hunter Street to browse through institutional handbooks and access computers with internet access to research courses in Australia,” she said.

Individuals have been given opportunities through the scholarships to connect with each other to share knowledge and promote the enduring ties between Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Applications for the 2018 intake are open until 28 February 2017. Further information about Australia Awards Scholarships can be found at: www.australiaawardspng.org.
