The 2016 Southern Region Nine’s Tournament will now be staged at the National Football Stadium from the 11th to 15th of this month.
This was announced yesterday after the Southern Region Nines Management team secured the venue from the Management of the Lloyd Robson Trust.
The Southern 9s tournament has been the platform for a new breed of players in the Southern Region to showcase their talents, and in the process, capture the interest of Inter City Cup teams.
Tournament Director, Ivan Ravu, said the players and the management of the respective participating teams will be excited to play on this magnificent venue.
The competition has so far attracted 72 registered teams. This would include Southern Confederation Club Championship between Aroma Coast and Rigo Seida Raiders at 1pm, and then Hohola Flies up against JCI Titans Gaire at 3pm, on Sunday.
Ravu, said the common goal of the association is to foster and promote rugby league to the community at large. This was the whole reason why they are merging the competition on the same day.
During the games, a strong community message on Violence against Women and Girls and HIV/AIDS prevention will be carried out.
Participating teams are also encouraged to promote good discipline and sportsmanship, both on and off the field during this five-day tournament.
The gate fee will be K10.00 for adults and K5.00 for children, while a limited number of vehicles will be allowed into the stadium on prior arrangements with the organisers. The motor vehicle pass fee would cost K20 per vehicle.
