Breaking: 2016 Academic Year for Universities to Resume

The government has announced that the academic years for the Universities of Goroka, Technology, and University of Papua New Guinea will resume.

Newly-appointed for Minister of Higher Education, Francis Marus, announced that the academic year for the University of Goroka, will resume in two weeks’ time.

He also announced that the academic year for the University of Technology, will resume on August 29th, while the UPNG academic year is expected to resume in September.

Minister Francis Marus said that after dialogues with the affected universities, the academic years will resume with university of Goroka first to resume.

Lae University of Technology will be resuming August 29th and the damaged infrastructures during student rampage of a over death student will be catered by Unitech and long term solutions will be set up by the government.

Meanwhile UPNG academic year will resume in September. Due to the termination of 2016  academic year, 2017 academic year will begin in September and there will be 4 semesters consisting of 2016 2 semesters.

While 2017 first year students will begin classes in April next year. 2016 usual graduations will go accordingly.

Students on TESAS scholarship will resume their scholarships, while a reapplying form will be required for students to fill due to the begging of 2017 academic year. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Albert Mellam, says this is so to allow the university to understand the total number of students attending for 2017.

Minister Marus has also called on members of parliament to help assist student return to respective universities.
