While parts of the country are still only beginning to vote, counting got underway in Hela on Tuesday. But just like what happened at the start of voting, there have been delays with counting – in the Nation’s Capital, counting has been pushed back to Thursday. Whenever counting begins, it’s almost guaranteed to be a lengthy process, something expected with the Limited Preferential Voting system.
On Your Vote 2017, we explore how the counting process works with the LPV system and ask what impact it’s had on election results and the formation of our governments, since it was first introduced 10 years ago. Dr Thomas Webster from the National Research Institute joins the YourVote 2017 program to provide his commentary.
