Women encouraged to take up cricket

Current leading scorer and wicket taker ofthPNG Womenrsquo;s cricket team, Norma Ovasuru has encouraged more women to take up bat and ball in cricket.

Ovasuru was part ofthe Pacific MMI Scholarship team that took outthe Beisbane Womenrsquo;s 2nd grade competition recently.

The young Kerema lass have spentthe last three months in Australia playing cricket among ther Australian women.

Not only was it a great experience for Norma but a memorable one as well with her team Dolphins taking outtheir maiden title in Beisbane.

Ovasuru ledthe way withthe bat to top score with 67 with fellow Pacific MMI Lewa’s team mate Tanya Ruma.

Norma wasthe leading run scorer for the grade where she racked up 311 (1 century & 2 half-centuries) runs with an average of 77.75 with her highest score being 126* against Wests.

Norma has also provern skilful withthe ball and while it’s great to be back home, Norma is encouraging more women to play cricket as it can take you places.
