Woman to Face Sentence for Forgery

Justice Gibbs Salika from the Waigani National Court has reserved ruling today until next Friday, for a woman convicted of forgery and uttering in 2012.

Margaret Ani committed the offences over a period of time, and was involved in 24 repeated acts each of forgery and uttering.

She used close to K70,000 belonging to the Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation.

Ani, the offender, is from Central province. She committed the offence while working as Treasurer of the PNG Cancer Foundation.

The court found that she used a total of K66,974.90 to repay her personal debts.

Ani, who is out on bail, was charged with four counts of stealing, forgery, uttering, and misappropriation.

The state filed a submission on sentence today, for Ani’s imprisonment term. A head sentence for forgery and uttering, each to range from 7 to 14 years imprisonment.
