A woman has been shot dead at Kakandetta in Popondetta, Northern Province on Monday.
According to eyewitness in the province she was preparing food for her sons’ Grade Eight graduation at Resurrection Primary School when the incident occurred.
She was killed by a stray bullet fired from a police issued firearm.
The policeman implicated in the shooting has been detained at the Popondetta Police Station pending a full investigation.
It is understood that the policeman was conducting a routine operation, where he chased a group of drunken youths who ran into the deceased residence.
The policeman then opened fire at the youths, thus killing the woman instantly.
The public in Popondetta are outraged at the conduct of the policeman.
They want a full investigation into the shooting death of the woman and not for it to be swept under the rug.
The public said most cases involving police personnel in the province have gone unheard and they want answers.
Attempts to contact the Provincial Police Commander, Lincoln Gerari, have been unsuccessful.
