Wingei Primary School’s New Staff Accommodation Opened

Staff and students of Wingei Primary School, West Yangoru, took time out from normal school activities to celebrate the opening of new staff accommodation at their school today.

The Assembly of God agency school is the biggest primary school in the Yangoru-Saussia District of East Sepik Province boasting 20 staff and 526 students.

It was established over 50 years ago by missionaries.

The teachers houses are funded through K100,00 DSIP funds, with K50,000 from the school.

Wingei Primary is another example of the successful government-church partnership that ensures education reaches rural populations in the country.

The A.O.G church has been a major education provider in Yangoru-Saussia District for decades, and their reliability in the education sector continues to secure government support in their various schools.

Speaking during the opening, East Sepik Senior education standards officer, Tom Vincent, said parents and the community must support the districts priority to improve the quality of education standard in the district.

He said education must start in the community with parents and community members setting a good example for the children follow and develop good habits before and during their school years.

Fentson Yaninen, District CEO, echoed similar sentiments saying the district has plans to establish one high school for each LLGs. He was also speaking on behalf of local MP and Trade & Industry Minister, Richard Maru.

The district-school partnership has worked on the principle that there is capacity in the district, so builders have been recruited from communities within the district.

By the end of the year, the district plans to build 50 staff houses and 70 classrooms throughout the district.
