Widow to sit for Grade 12 Exam

A 36-year-old widow from the Mul-Baiyer area of Western Highlands Province will be amongst Grade 12 students nationwide who will be sitting for their National Examinations next Monday.

Joyce Kaimdi is currently doing her Grade 12, taking Biology and Maths A at Kombolopa High school.

She was sponsored by a ingle mothers group, called the Mubalu Women of Hope Federation Association.

The group helps women without husbands in finding avenues to sustain their living.

Kaimdi told EMTV News that her husband passed on in 2002, when their three children were aged 1 and 5 years old, and their third boy was only several months old.

Joyce is among other single mothers and widows who were sponsored to continue their education.

Joyce could not complete her education as she was only 16 years old when she got married.

She raised the children on her own, until in year 2012, she heard about the free education policy that was introduced by the then O’Neill-Dion government.

She then applied to continue her education, where she will be sitting for her Grade 12 exams the following week.

Joyce has already applied to take up Nursing at the Mendi or Madang Nursing colleges.

She encouraged other mothers like her to follow her footsteps.
