Weightlifting Saga: Weightlifters Air Concerns to Federation

by Raphaella Kaore – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Hanuabada and Loa Dika Toua (LDT) weightlifting clubs have finally come together, in an attempt to gain a greater level of funding from the national body.

Dika Toua, both competitor and head coach for the national team expressed athletes concerns to the weightlifting federation last Friday in a news conference.

With both clubs continually producing emerging talent, Toua stated that it would be best to have the two clubs combine to make it a simpler process for the federation to provide the adequate funding required for the running of the club.

She called on the current interim administration to step down, or weightlifting in Papua New Guinea could potentially come to an end.

Toua said the interim administration have been there for five consecutive years and have done nothing.

Hanuabada weightlifting coach, Douglas Mea, voiced his concern on why the national AGM for the federation was deferred until next year.

Mea said that next year the focus will be elsewhere, and the administration and smooth running of the federation should be sorted out as soon as possible.
