About 20,000 kilograms of weightlifting equipment arrived in Port Moresby just before New Years for the upcoming 2015 Pacific Games.
The equipment consists of training discs, bars and collars, barbell lifters, competition disc racks, warm-up discs, squatting racks, chalk blacks and resin.
This equipment will enable some of the world’s best weightlifters from Pacific countries to strive for gold in this year’s Games.
Pacific island athletes stood out in the weightlifting competition, winning medals.
Papua New Guinea’s Dika Toua and Steven Kari, along with Kiribati’s David Katoatau all grabbed gold at the Commonwealth Games in their respective weight categories. Other Pacific nation medallists from the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow last year included Nauru, Fiji and Samoa.
This places Pacific athletes amongst the best in the world and the Games Organising Committee want to ensure that they have world-class and international standard equipment during the Pacific Games, scheduled for July this year.
