A waste disposal management program will be introduced by the Buka Town Authority.
Buka Town Authority Manager, Edward Kenai, says the triple ‘RRR’ Policy – Reduce, Recycle and Reuse – adopted from Japan, will be integrated into the system.
Mr Kenai recently visited the new state of the art waste disposal management system in the National Capital District.
“We have so much to learn in how to deal with waste management. It is always good to learn from other countries like Japan.”
The Japanese Government through a joint partnership program, with the Independent State of Papua New Guinea and other line agencies have worked together tm improve the waste disposal management system in the National Capital District.
This also includes other waste management policies that are being developed specifically for mines, operating in Papua New Guinea.
The Waste Disposal Management System using the triple ‘RRR’, has been introduced now in some of the developing countries like Papia New Guinea.
And Baruni dump in Port Moresby was the first, where the project was piloted.
Kenai said it’s time for change, and more awareness will focus on controlling waste management and pollution in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
“Waste can be controlled. It’s just all about educating our people.”
Mr Kenai was recently appointed by the Autonomous Bougainville Government as the Manager for the Buka Town Authority.
