Today, 30 volunteers from almost all provinces signed their contracts of voluntary service under the National Volunteer Service to assist in delivering basic services like education and health.
The National Volunteer Service’s primary role is to ensure volunteers sent to help people in communities are well looked after by their host volunteer organisations.
These volunteers, mostly retired professionals, today signed a two-year contract to the National Volunteer Service and have agreed to offer their skilled services without being paid.
Some of them do not know where they will be posted to carry out a noble role in reaching people in rural areas with basic services.
They have come from all provinces within the country and will be taken by host volunteer organisations into respective communities to execute their voluntary duties.
Amongst the skilled people, were two persons with disabilities who have sworn to perform their volunteer services regardless of their disability.
Yaloma Ansik is one of them.
He has been teaching at an elementary school in Morobe’s Nawaeb district since 2011.
In the next two years, he would be a volunteer elementary school teacher at Morobe’s Wampar LLG.
The National Volunteer Service has been ensuring volunteers are capable of performing voluntary roles at environments suitable to them.
It continues to act as a tool that can assess and recommend volunteers every 3 years to deliver basic services and developments to reach people in rural areas.
