Newly appointed Clerk of ParliamentoVela Konivaro wants to act onthe speaker’s vision to restore, reform and modernisethe parliament.
This was his message duringthe handover takeover ceremony on Monday.
The ceremony took place atthe State Function Room in Parliament and was attended by heads of departments, members ofthe diplomatic co and parliamentary staff.
Speaker of parliament Theo Zurenouc saidthe clerk was appointed throughthe normal recruitment process after meeting allthe requirements.
He said since taking office in September last year, he has worked to restorethe integrity ofthe parliament and called onthe clerk to work with him to achieve this.
Konivaro who wasthe former First Legislative Counsel although does not have any experience working inthe parliamentopromised to give his best to fulfillthe speakers’ vision.
He also saidthe parliamentary act needs to be modernised by revisitingthe current staff structure in order to remover complacency; and for the current parliamentary tendering process to be reviewed for transparency purposes.
