Lynda Babao-O’Neill, Ryan Pini and Linda Pulsan were amongst a host of guests as Trukai Industries launched its annual Fun Run Program.
The wife of the Prime Minister, speaking on behalf of the Cancer Foundation, said that the fun runs drive the message of health, as the fun run looks to raise up to K500,000.
In preparation for the PNG Olympic Committee’s biggest fundraising event, organiaers have made a call for more corporate involvement in terms of sponsorship, being just four months out from the Olympic games to be held in Rio, Brazil.
This year’s theme for the fun run is ‘protect your family and eat healthy’, which will be embedded on shirts that will be sold prior to the run.
President of the PNG Olympic Committee, Sir John Dawanincura, praised the 17-year partnership that both the committee and Trukai had formed, and expressed excitement at the prospect of PNG having Olympians at Rio.
Swim star Ryan Pini was on hand, with the Pacific and Commonwealth Gold medalist stating that Rio would most likely be his swansong in terms of competitive swimming.
The final remarks were given to Chef de Mission, Emma Waiwai, who stated that PNG would be aiming to compete in seven different sports in the Olympics which included athletics, shooting, boxing and taekwondo.
In 2015, 50,000 people took part in the fun run, and the target for this year is double that number with the run to be held on June 26.
