There are 28 doctors at the Modilion General Hospital in Madang, all of them specialists, as required by a level five hospital.
It also has the only neurosurgeon in Papua New Guinea.
This has made it an ideal training ground for medical students. Additionally, there is an increase in the number of resident doctors wanting to work at Modilon.
However, as much as it wants to help with training, it does not have the necessary facilities.
Interim CEO, Christine Gawi, wants tutorial rooms built in all ward areas of the hospital to facilitate trainings.
She says the hospital has always been committed to its training aspect.
But limited training facilities have made teaching difficult, as staff cannot give their best to students.
Some of these issues will be addressed once the new developments at the hospital are completed.
So far staff and students have coped well, and are looking forward to the changes to come.
