Tongamp: Jiwaka Needs More Revenue

By Vasinatta Yama, EMTV – Mt Hagen

Jiwaka Governor, Dr William Tongamp, says the province needs more internal revenue to support local development activities.

Despite being a new province, Dr Tongamp says each province needs to set up its economic activities to generate revenue.

He said this during an ambulance presentation over the weekend.

On Saturday, Dr William Tongamp and Jiwaka Health Services presented the key to an ambulance to the Aviamp Christian Apostolic Health Services.

After 43 years, this was the first time for a rural health centre to receive such a gesture.

During his speech, Governor Tongamp explained to his people the importance of having income-generating activities to support development in the province.

Dr. Tongamp said while other establishing provinces may have made over a million last year on their internal revenues, Jiwaka has made just K700, 000.

The Provincial Government has formed the Jiwaka Development Corporation to make business to bring in more revenue.

One major project is registering small coffee plantation holders to fund them to revive coffee plantations in the province.

Jiwaka is also trialling a National Government policy in Agriculture to farm cattle.

Governor Tongamp said a team from New Zealand will be in the province to look after cows and produce dairy products in the province.
