Tonga, Among Asian Countries to Receive the Asia Environmental Enforcement Award

In a recent ceremony held in Bangkok, Thailand, a number of countries were given special awards. Tonga was among the group, receiving an award for enforcing Ozone Depleting Substances.

The other counties that also received the awards were: Cambodia, China, India, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

Tongan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Environment, Siaosi Sovaleni, was among the guests to receive the award on behalf of the Tongan Government.

The award known as the Asia Environmental Enforcement Award, recognises participants who take part in enforcement work in ozone depleting substances, chemicals and waste carried out, especially in the Asia-Pacific region.

In the Tongan Kingdom, the Customs Department and the National Ozone Office have joined forces to keep track and monitor all the refrigerated goods that are entering the small Pacific island.

Deputy Prime Minister said that it was a great opportunity to acknowledge the enforcement officers and the efforts that they have put in.
