The Education department has realized the need to equip all elementary and primary students with reading skills.
As a result, the department has taken the READ PNG initiative seriously, by supplying reading materials to all four regions in the country.
Read PNG is a National Department of Education Project, implemented by the curriculum development and assessment division.
This project is funded through a grant from the Global Partnership for Education, through the World Bank.
The objective of the project is to promote better teaching, learning, and reading skills in elementary and primary schools.
Containers bound for the New Guinea Islands provinces, will soon be followed by the Highlands and Southern Regions. The Momase Provinces have already received their containers at the provincial education centres.
Parents, teachers and the school community in the country need to take ownership of these reading materials for the betterment of their children’s learning.
