American Samoa and Solomon Islands forge for Oceania Cup

By Skola Sengi – EMTV, Port Moresby

American Samoa now join the Solomon Islands in forging their forces in Port Moresby days out from the 2015 Oceania Cup.

American Samoa Coach Leoti Patu shared the same sentiments as Solomon Islands Captain Fredson Saoki, that although the PNG Pukpuks are favourites in this year’s cup challenge, their aim is to take one game at a time.

They too have much to prove as debutants in the tournament, however having had a glimpse from the recent Pacific Games, American Samoa look to be the sleeping giants in the region.

They are sure to test PNGs forward pack in size and height but are hopeful that their campaign will spark more interest back home.

This is also a first for Samoa to a Rugby 15s event of this level, one that will be a building block for the sport.

American Samoa will take on Solomon lslands at 1:00pm this Saturday at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium.
