Team Oro has received support from its two open members at the eleventh hour for the 6th PNG Games in Lae and its participation in the games is financially secured.
The team was at the verge of pulling out from the games but this support will ensure their participation with some of the team’s athletes having already arrived in Lae.
Support of K100 000 has come from the Sohe District JDBPC and K150 000 from the Ijivitari JDBPC and the total funding of K250 000 will be budgeted to meet the teams expenses in Lae during the games.
The funding has come after the recent political upheaval, but the Ijivitari Sport Coordinator, Gill Yagoro has brushed aside any political affiliation.
Ijivitari MP David Arore has been appointed as Team Oro’s Patron with Copeland Gewa as the General Team Manager. Both will join Team Oro on Sunday for the opening ceremony.
Ijivitari Sport Coordinator Gill Yagoro says, 250 athletes from the province will be taking part in the games in nine different sporting codes.
Oro has been consistent with its participation in the PNG Games to develop its sporting talents.
It is hoping to defend its title in the open mix touch rugby at the games and to also go home with medals in other sporting codes.
