Oil Search Delivers Relief Supply to Locals

By Colleen Barilae – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Three provinces surrounding Oil Search’s project area will be receiving relief supplies from the company in the next few weeks.

Following the 5 months dry spell that has affected parts of the country, Southern Highlands, Gulf and Hela are now relieved from Oil Search’s aid program.

Oil Search’s General Manger of PNG Stakeholder Engagement, Leon Buskens, said the company is also working alongside National Disaster Centre to deliver supplies to the affected areas.

Despite the company’s declining oil price challenges, Oil Search Limited’s aid program has reached out to more than 20,000 people in need of disaster relief supplies this year.

Following the 5 months dry spell that has affected parts of the country, Gulf, Hela and Southern Highlands provinces will have rations for the next few weeks.

Areas around Oil Search’s project site will be receiving supplies of rice and tinned fish as well as water and medicine distributions.

Mr. Buskens said Oil Search was keen to deliver rations to its first community of Kulu village in Hela province.

Over five months ago, people Hela’s Kulu area experienced food shortages after the dry spell dried up their kaukau gardens.

This week, they along with more than 20,000 people in communities in the Gulf, Southern Highlands and other Hela areas will be benefiting from this relief initiative by Oil Search.
