The future of the SP PNG Hunters was guaranteed today, with an additional support of K7.6 million, for the next 5 years.
Minister for Sport and Tourism, Justin Tkatchenko, said the success of the Hunters over the past two years have reflected generously on the growth of the code in the nation, and with the on-going support from corporate houses and the national government, the Hunters program will continue to do so.
The renewal of sponsorship was made known today at SP Brewery’s brewkettle in Port Moresby, by CEO, Stan Joyce.
Joyce said, the success of the Hunters program over the past two years, particularly in the Intrust Super Cup has restored confidence in SP, and guaranteed an additional K7.6 million over the next five years.
With the increased support of rugby league fans over the last year, Sport Minister, Justin Tkatchenko said, the SP Hunters will be used as a marketing tool, for tourism in the country.
With the increase in sponsorship and the idea of using the Hunters as an attraction to the country, some could say, there is immense pressure on the shoulders of Coach Michael Marum, to again better the performance of his team.
But cool, calm and collected as he is, Marum’s confidence in his team goes as far as debuting seven new players from the Intercity Cup, for this year’s season.
The Hunters have another big year ahead, beginning with the trial match against the Penrith Panthers next weekend, at the National Football Stadium.
